Meet Gunner Murray RAA

Murray the Labrador was formally enlisted in the Royal Australian Artillery (16th Air Land Regiment, Woodside).

Murray is a graduate of Operation K9 (Op K9), the assistance dog program initiated between the Returned & Services League of Australia-SA Branch (RSL-SA) in partnership with the Royal Society for the Blind (RSB). He was trained by the RSB Guide Dog Service at Gilles Plains, and becomes the fourth assistance dog to be placed under the Operation K9 initiative.

As a serving member of the Royal Australian Artillery, Murray begins his military career with the rank of Gunner and will be eligible for subsequent promotion to Lance-Bombardier, and perhaps beyond.

His appointed manager is the unit’s Regimental Sergeant Major, Warrant Officer Class One Brendan Fox. At the enlistment ceremony, Murray will be accompanied by his supervisor, Sergeant Matthew Kelsey, of the Regimental Police. Under his posting, he also becomes the official mascot of the 16th Air Land Regiment.
