ONCE A YEAR, RIGHT AS RAIN

Come August, it is that time of the year when Gunners celebrate their birthday, and come together as one, both past and present. I was reliably informed that this year the gathering would be held in Gemas. I always make it a point to be there for two reasons, One- I am a Gunner, Two- I want to be there! I always hear excuses especially from gunners past that they have not been invited, or "the Corps has forgotten me", or "I have another appointment". Well, I cannot comment on this, except to say, I feel sorry for these folks. I personally like the Bahasa Malaysia expression " Mengeratkan Sillahtulrahim". In it's pure context it is so meaningful and emotional. I sincerely hope that the turnout will not suffer due to the location, especially so for people living in the Klang Valley. Maybe, just maybe, if we decide to put our hearts into it, we past gunners can organise an overnight trip, spending the eve of the parade at A Formosa and bussing ourselves to and fro on D Day. Just a thought, I suppose. Rest in Next.

  1. My dear friend and my very fine ex-colleague Rama,

I heard the same thing too and I hope to be around for the occasion again this time and as usual, dressed in my best lounge suite and with my Church brogues polished just like when I was in the service like the previous years. This is one event that I do not want to miss for the very same reasons that you've mentioned. I feel very happy meeting all those people who served the Artillery Corps especially when I was still around then, even though for me, it was a very short seven years.

I look forward to meet with as many ex-gunners as possible as well as the current gunners at the next anniversary.

    Insya'allah.
