The battle of Long Tan Revisited

105 Fd Battery RAA in Vietnam

Map of the Battle of Long Tan

I am an admirer of the the Australian troops that fought in the Battle of Long Tan in Vietnam in 18 August 1966. Thanks to the Seventh Rangers website which posted a recent video to the battle documented by FOXTEL, Australia.

The Battle of Long Tan was an Artillery battle as much as was an infantry battle. D Company 6 RAR was supported  by 161 Bty (NZ,) and 103 and 105 batteries RAA.

Young gunners are recommended to study and research into the Battle of Long Tan. It was truly one of the best Artillery supported battles in recent times.

Danger close missions, higher than sustained rate rates of fire and continuous fire support are all seen in this three hours battle. Also seen are windows for critical time management for air support missions, accuracy and consistency in the fall of shorts and last but not least, clear fire orders and good communications throughout the battle.
Gunners did what they were supposed to do in battle. Proud to be a Gunner always.

The battle is very relevant to RAD.

Happy research.
